Students can be granted leave of absence if they can substantiate an important reason for this. Applications for leave of absence must be made with Studierenden-Support.
Important reasons are particularly:
- pregnancy, child care
- illness
- preparing and doing a final examination
- time abroad for study reasons
- compulsory community or military service
- internship for study reasons
- care of a family member
Leave of absence is usually granted for the duration of one semester and can be granted up to the start of lectures.
Leave of absence cannot be granted in the first semester as a matter of principle.
Students are not permitted to do exams during leave of absence.
It is not possible to grant leave of absence retrospectively.
